Ouwehand
Ouwehand
Ouwehand was founded in 1905. Ouwehand only started with a wooden sailing lugger (fishing boat), but three years later a building was purchased and so Ouwehand started to grow.
During the First World War the entire company burned down, despite this setback, Ouwehand was re-established. Due to the start of the Second World War, sailing out was no longer possible from 1939 onwards. Because fishing was no longer possible, they switched to shrimp peeling until herring could be caught again in 1945. The catches were very good that year and it gave Ouwehand the opportunity to modernize and expand.
In 2005, Ouwehand received the Royal designation, which is a great honor to receive.
Ouwehand came into the hands of the Katwijk shipping company Parlevliet and van der Plas in 2009. This means that Ouwehand can work more effectively as they are now closer to the source and have first choice in the caught herring. This ensures that Ouwehand continues to offer the best quality, because quality comes first.
Ouwehand is currently the market leader on the Dutch market when it comes to fish products. It employs approximately 100 people, the majority of whom work in the factory.
